National Parks research--power point presentation
The 2nd graders had the opportunity to learn about quite a few National Parks this year. We read several Carole Marsh mystery books that took place in our nation's parks. We also studied three Alaskan National Parks to help us compare and contrast our community and geography to that of other places. The students earned Junior Ranger badges by learning about these National Parks. And since our play was based on a legend about Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, I decided to have the students research any National Park that they chose. They then created Power Point Presentation based on their research. We played the presentation after the play yesterday, but if you didn't get a chance to come yesterday, you can view it as a PDF here.

Going to the dogs!
We've begun our Iditarod unit! While we use this exciting event in our classroom, we will be learning math, geography, history, geology, writing, research, reading skills, and so much more. For the past two days, the students have been learning problem solving skills. Either working alone or with a partner, the students designed and built a dogsled using 1 paper plate, 4 rubber bands, 6 popsicle sticks, 1 paper clip, and 2 straws. They all encountered many challenges, but my directions to them were to figure out a way to solve their problems. They will be sharing their dogsleds along with their challenges and solutions via video this week. Stay tuned!
