Independent Reading
Each night your child will need to read 15 minutes and record it in their daily planner. They may read to you or by themselves. Students will be able to bring their “Read to Self” book home from school to read, or they can read a book that they have at home or that they have checked out from the public library. All I ask is that each day you send their signed planner and any books from the classroom library back to school.
On Fridays, it’s your turn! Instead of your child doing the reading, you have a chance to read to your child. It is still so important for them to hear people read aloud. You may read to them from a chapter book that they are currently enjoying or from a favorite picture book. Enjoy the special time! As a special treat, each Friday, one student will get to bring our reading dinosaur and his journal home to read with your family. In the journal, please record what book the dinosaur enjoyed with your family. Also, your child may write and/or draw about all of the fun the dinosaur had with your family over the weekend! |
